Flame glow plugs

Flame glow plugs is a type of preheater. Primarily used on trucks.

The glow plug is installed on the inlet manifold of a diesel engine in such a way that heated air and fuel vapors are supplied evenly to all engine cylinders. The number of flame glow plugs and their installation location are determined by the design of the engine and its intake tract. Usually one glow plug is installed in inlet manifold. Two glow plugs are installed on a V-shaped engine (one for each inlet manifold).

The principle of operation is as follows: when the key is turned to the first position, the glow plugs start heating the air in the inlet manifolds. After turning the key to the second position, the glow plugs emit torches of hot air, thereby heating the combustible mixture and making it easier to start the engine in cold weather.

The heating element which is installed in the housing of the flame glow plug provides heating, evaporation and ignition of diesel fuel, which is supplied through the fitting, is cleaned of impurities using a filter screwed into the fitting, and enters the annular cavity formed by the surface of the heating element and the tube. The amount of fuel supplied for combustion is dosed by a jet. Turning on and off the fuel supply to the flame glow plugs is provided by an electromagnetic fuel valve. An additional resistor with a thermal relay, connected to the circuit with flame glow plugs and provides the necessary time delay for their pre-glow and activates the electromagnetic fuel valve.

The use of flame glow plugs provides a quick start of an engine (including conditions with negative temperatures) and its output to a stable mode of operation with a mild process, and at the same time significantly reduces the value of the minimum starting speed of the engine crankshaft. This helps increase engine life by reducing engine wear during cold starts.

Flame glow plugs have a fairly high working resource. They are mainly used on diesel engines and high power vehicles.

Operating voltage: 8 — 24V;

Fuel operating flow: 2 — 20,8 сm3/min;

Heating temperature: 750 — 900 С°;

A number of glow plugs of the ISKRA brand are specially designed and adapted for use on machinery and engines manufactured in the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation.
