Glow plug control units are designed for automatic control of glow plugs of diesel engines of motor vehicles. The units provide on-board network voltage supply individually to each glow plug during preheating and post-start support after engine start, depending on the ambient temperature, as well as protection and diagnostics of control circuits with information displayed on the instrument panel display in the driver’s cab.
Application for modern diesel engines of cold starting units based on glow plug control units:
— provides automatic control and management of glow plugs without the need for manual control;
— has an adaptive functioning algorithm for different engine start modes at different temperatures;
— in cases where one or more glow plugs or individual elements of the electrical circuit are damaged, it turns off only those outputs that provide electricity to the damaged glow plugs, so that the remaining glow plugs remain in working order and provide preheating in normal mode;
— signals to the dashboard in case of a malfunction in the electrical circuit of the glow plugs;
— excludes the inclusion of glow plugs at an engine temperature above a predetermined level;
— has protective functions in case of reverse polarity connection.
Performing a protective function, in the event of a short circuit or open circuit, the control unit automatically detects and blocks the outputs connected to damaged glow plugs, protecting electrical wiring and other electrical equipment from short circuit currents without the use of fuses.
Control unit consists of a housing with a printed circuit board inside which contains a microprocessor, resistors, capacitors, diodes, an electronic timer, a temperature sensor, switching devices on field-effect transistors of MOSFET series, as well as connectors for connecting cable harnesses.
Most control units are suitable for on-board systems with a voltage of 12 or 24 V. Depending on the number of engine cylinders, control units are available with 3, 4 and 6 outputs. An 8 output version is also available upon customer request.
The advanced technologies implemented in the ISKRA glow plug control units, in combination with the glow plugs, increase the efficiency of the ignition process, greatly facilitating and reducing the time to start the engine, especially at low temperatures. The use of integrated systems of cold starting units for the engine with electronic control units for glow plugs makes it possible to reduce the amount of harmful emissions and achieve the requirements of modern environmental standards.
Consumers of ISKRA control units are global manufacturers such as Deutz, MAN, Cummins, Kohler/Lombardini, MTZ/MMZ/MAZ, John Deere, Yanmar and others.
A number of ISKRA glow plug control units are specially designed for use on machinery and engines manufactured in the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation.
